I suppose it’s inevitable that people will start talking about the London based convention that managed to pull in probably the biggest name in the history of comics in 2012, the legend that is Stan Lee. With a 2013 date penned in for the weekend of February 23rd and 24th, there has already been a slew of rumours as to who is going to be attending the second year of this already excellent show.
We do know that the legendary George Perez has the convention listed on his schedule and has a pre-convention commission sketch list already underway. Other names mentioned through the rumour mill in the same breath as “London” and “Comic Con” include top billings such as Jim Lee and Neal Adams, although neither have been confirmed officially. There is also talk that the legendary (and top fella) Bob Layton will be returning too. Many of us would also be hoping for a few more big names to pop over; Frank Miller, Brian Azzarello, Garth Ennis, Robert Kirkman, Brian K Vaughan, Ed Brubaker and many others are on our wish list to attend alongside Geoff Johns, Eduardo Risso, Darick Robertson and Rob Guillory who couldn’t make last years event. Of course, this isn’t exhaustive, just those we’d like to meet!
We are sure there will be many top names mentioned in the preceding months between now and February next year and we are all currently hanging on an announcement on their Facebook page that the first names will be coming up within the next few days. The first convention was, in our opinion, an overwhelming success and we expect bigger and better things at the ExCel centre next time from the organisers. Whoever they manage to get this time, especially after such a successful first time round, we are certain of one thing; they will have to go some way to top Stan the Man.
