The weekend of the 8th & 9th of April is taken care of as Sci-Fi Scarborough once again invites you all to geek beside the seaside as the unconventional convention returns for the fourth consecutive year in the quirky quarter mile that is the beautiful Victorian Scarborough Spa. A large venue with more than enough room for everyone to wander freely, great for families and those with disabilities, with easy access throughout.

Utilising eight very different areas that cover all aspects of fandom, from guest stars to gaming, props to publishers, cosplayers to comic books, music to Minecraft, artists to authors, traders to top-line creators and so much more. SFS brings a FULL weekend of everything you love about the world of Sci-Fi and Fantasy with, as always, a few surprises to amaze, engage and entertain.

As the world’s longest running and most respected Sci-Fi/Fantasy magazine STARBURST reported in their double page review of SFS 2016:

‘As more and more geek-orientated events hit the calendar, the competition has gotten more and more fierce but already, a number of events are starting to stand out from the crowd, and Sci-Fi Scarborough does this very well indeed, thanks to a combination of a great venue and very strong, community minded ethos’

Moving through the venue brings Retro and Console gaming Traders and Gaming Stations in Flynns Arcade, with GAME with the Challenge Zone, UBISOFT, VR heaven with Oculus Rift, R-Tecc Games Alpha testing their new game Station 21,  and Pixels retro gaming to show the kids how we used to roll back in the day.

Looking out to the Sun Court where Live Music from The Underground Music Institute entertains the crowds all weekend, a free face painter & balloon modeller, Inca & Zeus the Macaws with pirate handlers & entertainers Two The Hilt with live Jedi battles to keep the younglings happy all weekend.

The Promenade Lounge ‘Trading Hall’ provides collectors of all ages with over 20 trading pitches of top class collectables for all budgets.

Worthy of a convention in itself, The Ocean Room becomes ‘Hangar 18’ and hosts Hollywood prop & armoury legend Terry English, Anderson & Friends with original Gerry Anderson puppets, ships & props, Live Bodypainting, Prosthetics & SFX make-up, prop collections from The North Yorkshire Props Department, UK Sandraiders, Outer Rim Props, The Time Meddlers Dr Who display, Hidden Horizons astronomy & phenomenal planetarium, Magraw’s World of Vintage Star Wars &  the amazing Leeds/Bradford Starfleet.

Throw in Scarborough Anime & Manga Society plus brand new card game to test out Heroes of Pentartica for arguably the geekiest area of SFS.

‘The Fan Film Theatre’ once again becomes our main holodeck to some of the best Independent and Fan Films on the circuit & guest panels, running throughout the weekend under the careful stewardship of the award winning Red Shirt Films from York.

Pixellated mayhem ensues as Krash Labs return to SFS, located at the top of the stairs in the foyer with high speed LAN and 25+ PC’s. At Coastival 2017 they produced a 1-1 scale map of Scarborough in Minecraft, this took 9 months and thousands of hours of work, but it is now being attacked by Tripod Aliens and we need you to come and defend it. Suit up and help save the day.

Farrers Bar is the Saturday night party zone with the famous Geek Pub Quiz and live music from The Fuzz Junkies, Parasputin, headline band Blues Harvest will be playing Sci-Fi movie hits and Cardboard Cyborg leading onto the early hours of Sunday morning.

The Cosplay competition will once again shout out to all the brilliant Cosplayers attending with daily awards for Best Male/Female and Junior Male/Female.

Roaming features include The UK R2 Builders Club, fresh off their work on Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Force Awakens and Rogue One, patrols from the Judges of the Brit-Cit Justice Department and Star Wars costumers from Rebel Legion and The East Midlands Garrison.

Scarborough’s very own Black Sheep Cosplay plus Sons of Skaro with the usual compliment of Dalek’s terrorising attendees at will.

Event co-organiser Steve Dickinson “We can’t believe how much SFS has grown as an event in just 4 years, we have packed this show out with fantastic guests & amazing content this year and there are over 300 people on site and involved in the show. It’s an incredible amount of work putting it together & co-ordinating everything but it’s such a great weekend & so many lovely people have so much fun that it makes it all worthwhile!”
